WINE SPECTATOR RATES THE 2002 MERLOT – 94 POINTS

On July 7, 2005, the WINESPECTATOR ONLINE rated the 2002 Ahnfeldt Merlot 94 points.

The introductory paragraph states:

“The strength of the 2002 California Cabernet vintage is reaffirmed with these star performances. But cast your eye on the debut Merlot from Ahnfeldt, which is absolutely delicious and, at $35, a veritable best buy—it’s one of those sprint don’t run opportunities (with only 120 cases). The Ahnfeldts own several vineyards in Napa Valley and obviously the Merlot sings.”

In describing the Merlot, WINESPECTATOR stated:

“A striking debut, with an unusual mastery of Merlot. A 2002 Cabernet is also due. Dark in color, with thick, rich, polished currant, black cherry and blackberry fruit that has a chocolaty edge. Intense and concentrated, it’s smooth on the palate and, while the tannins are big and rich, they’re ripe and easy going. Drink now through 2011.
